Davis wrote the original version for Aretha Franklin, but when Billy Strange, who was handling music for the film, approached Davis about contributing a song, he realized that 'A Little Less Conversation' fit the scene perfectly, so he reworked it with strange and Elvis sang it for the film. Said 7 years ago: Both JXL's remix & the original version of Elvis' 'A Little Less Conversation' sound excellent. The Track (Guitar/Horns/Lead vocal) used on THe JXL Remix is actually taken (directly) from a version that Elvis Re-recorded in June 1968 (Three months after the version posted on this webpage). However, this original version (posted on this website) sounds ppretty good, and JXL did an excellent job remixing an old Elvis track & mashing (Mixing, as in DJ-Mixing) it up with his own (added) instruments & vocals ('Come Here Girl' in a elcetronically hi-pitched voice). THe background vocals on the JXL remix is provided by The Blossoms (who also did the Back-up vocals on the June 1968 version.). Said 8 years ago: Yay, only took 11 months to go through!
This was just about my first ever submission when I joined the site! Originally submitted as a cover and rejected on the basis that it was a remix. Generally speaking though I thought for something to be technically called a remix the original artist would give consent to the remix artist? A little bit tricky for this one without an old priest and a young priest, some holy water and a cheeseburger,,, thangyavurrimuch! Interesting fact, JXL is actually Junkie XL but this was a name felt to be in bad taste for the release of this track.
It was, reportedly at the time, the first time an actual sample of Elvis' voice had been officially cleared for a commercial release. This may well be incorrect but it woudln't surprise me.
